About the Club
Wymondham Athletic Club (referred to as WAC for obvious reasons) is primarily a road running club, with members participating in road running races all over the UK (and the occasional overseas marathon and half marathon), but we also take part in off-road/trail runs and the local cross country leagues.
Our race calendar includes a number of team events. WAC welcomes all abilities (our only requirement is that you can run 5k - eg a parkrun - without stopping). We pride ourselves on helping and encouraging our members to achieve their running goals and sharing in their sense of achievement when they do.
We meet Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays) at Wymondham Rugby Club headquarters on Tuttles Lane, from 6.30pm. Announcements are at 6.40pm and we are out running by 7.00pm. Sessions are geared to match all abilities and are coordinated and supervised by our team of experienced and qualified coaches.
After a run there is the chance to catch up with fellow runners over tea and biscuits. We also hold training sessions on a Thursday evening, summer and winter, at various locations. See elsewhere on the website for information.
With the help of members on the day and beforehand, we organise two races each year - a 10km road race on New Year’s Day and a 20 mile road race in early spring – that are open to other runners. All of those members of WAC who help make the Club what it is provide their input for free and all members are expected to return this favour and to put something back into the Club – it’s all part of the enjoyment of being a part of WAC.
The club is affiliated to Athletics Norfolk and all members are registered with England Athletics, giving them a number of benefits, including discounted entry fees to affiliated races. Whatever you’re aiming for - simply running better or more consistently, improving fitness or race performance or completing a first half marathon or even a marathon – WAC sets out to provide a supportive and friendly environment for doing so.
If you are interested in joining us please email our Secretary here or just turn up on a Monday evening and one of the committee will greet you, explain the format of the evening and help you to find the training group best suited to your requirements.
