Adnams 10k Southwold
Sunday 17 November 2019
Chilly but fine weather was the order of the day for the Adnams 10k in Southwold on Sunday 17 November. We had 15 WAC runners taking part in this two lap race that starts at the Harbour Inn and then continues through the picturesque harbour itself and round the common, finishing with an uphill climb to the Red Lion pub. The race sells out every year usually within half an hour of opening - the free Adnams beer at the end may well be some of the reason for this!
Results-wise it was a fantastic race for Jet Watkinson, who was first female home in a time of 39 minutes exactly. Tony Beales ran his fastest 10k for 18 months in a time of 45.46. There were lots of other great results across the Club. so well done to all. I think everybody that was there will be ready next year for fastest fingers first when entries open.
Snetterton Race Track Half and Full Marathon
Sunday 17 November 2019
This was a lovely race on a beautifully smooth tarmac surface with no hills (unless you count the bridge!). Three laps for the half and six for the full marathon. The weather was also kind being cool, with no breath of a wind and the atmosphere was great. About 10 WACers took part, three doing the full marathon and the rest the half. There were several places where you passed runners going the other way and could give each other a friendly wave and some encouragement. Congratulations go to our three marathon runners, Kyle Brooks, Adam Masterson and Heath Alexander-Bew for winning the Open Men's Team prize!
Houghton Hall Cross Country
Sunday 3 November2019
A brilliant XC race run over a tough heavy 5 mile course in the picturesque grounds of Houghton Hall in what was also the first race in the inaugural Norfolk XC League. We had an excellent turnout with 12 runners competing in the race plus excellent support. Congratulations to our new member Callum Simpson who was 2nd overall and 1st Men’s Senior, congratulations also to Georgia Williams and Sophie McLaren who were 2nd and 3rd Ladies Seniors respectively and congratulations also to Rodney Freeburn who picked up the award 1st M80. We had 4 scoring runners in the Men’s Race with the A team made up of Callum Simpson, Richard White, Andrew Lane and James Birch and in the Ladies race our scoring quartet A Team were Lisa Greengrass, Georgia Williams, Anneke Cook and Sophie McLaren.
